NOL – Beach Cleaning Marathon

NOL’s dedicated team came together for a beach cleanup, ensuring the pristine beauty of Romeikos Gyalos, in Myrina, Lemnos is preserved. Recyclable materials, garbage and a total of 1200 kilos of seaweed were collected! With this action we improved the coastal environment, but we also tried to eliminate hidden dangers for our athletes.Seaweed poses a potential hazard to our athletes, making this cleanup not just an environmental effort but a safety measure too. We’re committed to providing a safe and clean space for all our members. It’s heartening to witness the spirit of community and environmental responsibility within NOL. Together, we can create a positive impact on and off the water! The action was implemented under the RoBeats Erasmus Plus project, that NOL is partner. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this incredible initiative. Let’s continue to row towards a cleaner, greener future!

The format will also be part of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal and the 2026 Commonwealth Games, in addition to other high-profile Continental multisport games and World Championships taking place every year. That global growth strategy will continue with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.   “The inclusion of Coastal Rowing at LA28, through the Beach Sprints format, is expected to be transformational for our sport in terms of global exposure, and in making an exciting form of rowing accessible to new populations, said World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland. We believe Beach Sprint Rowing has the potential to enhance the Olympic programme by embracing beach culture and our shared values of universality, gender-equality and sustainability, while delivering genuine innovation in sport, broadcast and fan entertainment. The final decision on the events, quotas and competition formats will be taken by the IOC Executive Board atier the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
